A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LEAKE ACADEMY REBELETTES GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR ITS PHENOMENAL PERFECT SEASON, FOR WINNING THE ACADEMY OVERALL CHAMPIONSHIP AND FOR BEING THE NO. 1 ACADEMY GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM IN THE STATE.
WHEREAS, the Leake Academy Rebelettes finished the 1998 season with a rare accomplishment in sports: a perfect record with 46 wins and 0 losses; and
WHEREAS, the Leake Academy Rebelettes won the academy overall championship with a 56-37 win over Jackson Academy; and
WHEREAS, the Leake Academy Rebelettes finished the season as the No. 1 academy girls basketball team in the State of Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, the Leake Academy Rebelettes steamrolled through their opponents with only one school coming within double digits; and
WHEREAS, of the Rebelettes' 46 victims, 39 fell by at least 20 points; and
WHEREAS, even in the playoffs, the best teams in the state could not slow the Rebelette juggernaut; and
WHEREAS, the Rebelettes accomplished the first perfect season in tradition-laden Rebelette history; and
WHEREAS, Coach Doyle Wolverton, whose record is 707-132 with four overall championships, proclaimed that the 1998 Rebelettes were the best team he has ever fielded; and
WHEREAS, in their relentless march to perfection, the Rebelettes exhibited the determination, poise, dedication and the desire to excel that is the hallmark of champions and championship teams; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature to commend meritorious accomplishments especially when achieved by the youth of the state:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSISSIPPI STATE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we commend the Leake Academy Rebelettes for achieving a perfect record, for winning the Academy overall championship and for being the No. 1 academy girls basketball team in the State of Mississippi.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Leake Academy.
